Qns: Who is the 'lamb that is 'slaughtered' in the story.
Hat: Green
Ans: I feel that the policemen were the real 'lambs' that were slaughtered in the story. They trusted that Mary Maloney was not the one who murdered Patrick Maloney. However they were wrong as Mary Maloney was the murderer and she was even planning an alibi with Sam, the grocer. It was utterly astonishing that Mary Maloney would do such a thing! It was almost as if that she, a gentle and trusting lamb, has turned into a devil! But that was not all. When the policemen were searching for the murder weapon, she offered them some whisky and a lamb leg, which was the murder weapon. Feeling exhausted and also hungry, they reluctantly accepted the two items as they knew that they were not allowed to accept anything from anyone while doing their duties. While they were eating the lamb leg, Mary Maloney in the other room started to laugh. That also showed a drastic change in Mary Maloney that she has became a 'devil'. Thus, I feel that it was the policemen that were 'slaughtered' in the story as their trust in Mary Maloney was being betrayed.

News in class: Hydrogen cars
Qns: describe how people in your country are doing their part to save the environment.
Ans: I feel that Singapore is doing a great part, (although not their best, as there are still some people who does not want to help save the environment), in helping to save the environment. Examples of what we are doing currently are the 3Rs, reduce, reuse and recycle. I will be elaborating more on the 3Rs in the later parts of my post.
Can you imagine if everyone in the world bought a car? And can you imagine the amount of resources wasted just on cars? Well fret not, because Singaporeans are becoming more and more aware of the impact of global warming on the world and thus lesser of them are buying cars. Instead, more and more of them are starting to use public transports. This is a good example of Singaporeans practising the 3Rs(Reduce in this case).
Next, I am going to talk about reuse. Have you heard of a reusable bag? Or perhaps you might have even have one. But anyway, I am still going to tell you about this type of bag. When you buy things from the supermarket or anywhere, you will need a plastic bag to help you take all your things. And most of you would not even keep your plastic bags for future use. Instead you will just leave them aside or even throw it away. However with this type of bag, you will be reducing the amount of resources used as it is reusable. The recycling bag is free as long as you spend above a certain amount at supermarkets like "Shop n save"(correct me if I am wrong). It is very useful as it is not only light, reusable but also environmentally friendly. Thus I encourage you, my readers to ask your mother to buy or get one of these bag and start saving the environment now.
Last but not least I will be talking about recycle. Have you seen any big bins with labels like "plastic and paper only" or "glass and cans only"? If yes have you been using it well? These bins are actually recycling bins. For example if you have lots of unwanted, yet recyclable items, you should bring it to the recycling bins to recycle.
There are still many examples left for me to mention but if I do the list will become endless. So what are you waiting for? Start to help save the environment now!

Newspaper article: 74 dead in Shanxi mine explosion
This article is a plot-driven one as it urges the reader to want to know more about what happens in the end. This article tells us about a mine explosion that happened on 22 February 2009. It has killed over 74 people and there are still more people trapped underground. The state media said that 436 miners were working underground when the pre-dawn blast occured at the Tunlan mine in Gujiao City near Taiyaun, capital of the main coal-producing province of Shanxi.
A total of 114 miners were under observation at hospital, including 5 whose injuries were "relatively serious". The gas explosion happened the day after senior provincial officials held a conference about mine safety, in which they pledged to put an end to deadly mining accidents. The death toll makes this the most lethal accident reported in China's disaster-prone mining in industry since 105 people died in a mine explosion in December 2007 , also in Shanxi.
The Tunlan mine is owned by Shanxi Jiaomei Group, one of China's largest producers of coking coal, used in the production of steel. It operates 28 mines. Xinhua said Tunlan- which has an annual capacity of 5 million tonnes- was considered a relatively safe mine, with no accidents reported over the past decade.
China has vowed for many years to improve safety at its mines, but its mining industry is still the world's deadliest. About 3200 people died in coal mine accidents last year, a 15 per cent decline from the previous year.
However, independent labour groups have long maintained that its mining death toll is much higher than what the government says, as local mine bosses and regional leaders cover up accidents to avoid fines and costly mine shutdowns. Government figures have also shown that almost 80 per cent of the nation's 16,000 mines are illegal.

News in class: Strange Cures
Qns:You are a student activist for animal preservation. You strongly believe animals should not be hunted for their body parts as medicinal ingredients. Draft a speech which you are going to make at a public forum on preventing cruelty to animals.
Ans:
Dear ladies and gentlemen, I am honoured to deliver this speech to you. Today I am going to talk about the issue of animals being hunted for their body parts as medicinal ingredients.
As a student activist for animal preservation, I strongly believe that animals should not be hunted for their body parts as medicinal ingredients. But you might ask me"How are you going to prevent cruelty towards animals?". Fret not, because that is exactly what I am about to tell you.
Have you ever heard of cures such as swallowing a "murrel" live? Or perhaps you might have tried them out before. But do you think that such cures work? Yes, no, maybe? The truth is none of these cures actually work because almost 3 quarter of these cures are just believes! And because of these believes, that might not even be true, many thousands of animals have been killed!
Next, I am going to tell you about how to prevent the cruelty towards these animals. Firstly, you must ask yourself if you are a believer of such cures. If yes, I urge you to find out if it is a reliable method. The next step is to let others know that such cures don't work. If you see anyone eating an animal either raw or ground into powder, I would urge you to go forward to tell them that these methods don't work. Remember, even if it is only one person who believes you, you have made the impact and have saved an animal's life.
Last but not least, I would like to thank you all for coming to listen to my speech.

Shoot First, Feel Bad Later
A few years ago video games were created. At that time, the objective of the games were simple. (Just move your character around and collect as many points as possible). However, don't you think that playing these games are pointless? So what if you score the highest score in the game? Does it mean that you are the king in playing all sorts of games? No! It simply means that you have finished the game. But have you ever wondered how many games are there in the world? It would be endless if you wanted to finish all the games. And just for your information playing games can also kill your brain cells. However, can you believe that there are still people in our generation playing these sort of games?Luckily with the advancement in technology there are now games such as 'tycoon' which instills a sense of economic awareness in children. Such kind of games are not only fun but also educational. Isn't it like killing 2 birds with one stone? Thus I feel that this is the best choice for families if they are looking for games. Though I can't deny that some of these games are addictive, I still feel that we should educate our younger generation by letting them play more of these educational games rather than let them play those kind of aimless games. Even if we were to let them play, there should be a limitation.
